Alex Job Racing teammates Pat Long and Jorg Bergmeister broke their year-long victory drought in the U.S. Sportscar Invitational at Laguna Seca on Sunday.
Driving the only Crawford chassis in the Daytona Prototype only race, Long and Bergmeister rolled to a narrow victory over Chip Ganassi teammates Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas after 91 laps of the undulating 2.238-mile Laguna Seca road course.
Michael Shank Racing teammates Mark Patterson and Oswaldo Negri completed the podium in a race where 13 of the 19 starters finished on the lead lap with Brumos Racing duo Darren Law and David Donohue and Samax Motorsport partners Ryan Dalziel and Patrick Carpentier rounding out the top five.
The all-conquering Riley chassis may have been edged out of victory lane on this occasion but the victorious #23 team aside, the next non-Riley on the results sheet was the Memo Gidley/Guy Cosmo driven Doran in tenth place followed by the Cheever Racing Fabcar of Christian Fittipaldi and Harrison Brix.
Heading into Sunday's race it was SunTrust Racing atop the DP Championship standings although drivers Wayne Taylor, Max Angelelli and Jan Magnussen had their challenge dampened in the early stages when they lost three laps. Although they were able to regain one of their lost laps before the finish they were still classified a distant 15th after a race of remarkably low attrition.
