Doran Racing has received a major boost ahead of the season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona after unveiling primary sponsorship from fast food chain McDonalds, the first such company to sponsor a car - either in a primary or associate role - in the Rolex Series.
Moreover, the world's leading food service retailer will sponsor the #77 Ford-powered Dallara Daytona Prototype throughout the 2008 season, although it is not yet clear exactly how much of the livery will be devoted to the famous red-and-yellow colours. The team has confirmed, however, that, starting with this month's Daytona marathon, McDonald's will be prominently displayed on the car and expected to appear 'for many races in 2009'.
"We're excited about bringing McDonald's on board for the 2009 Rolex 24 and other races," said team owner Kevin Doran, whose eponymous squad won the Rolex 24 in 1998 and 2002, "McDonald's is well-known and will bring significant exposure to our team and Grand-Am. This is a great opportunity and we expect to put the #77 Ford Dallara up front this season."
The team was among 21 entries during this month's three-day 'Roar Before the Rolex 24' testing session at Daytona International Speedway, and was a top ten competitor on each day. Memo Gidley, Brad Jaeger, Fabrizio Gollin and Matteo Bobbi will share driving duties.
