Doran signs South African duo

Doran Racing has announced the signing of South African pair Hennie Groenewald and Dio von Moltke for the next round of the Grand Am Rolex Series at Daytona International Speedway.

The pair will make their debut in the series on the back of a strong test session at Mid-Ohio at the wheel of the #77 Dallara Ford, with the pair gradually improving their times to end up matching the pace of a number of Rolex Series regulars.

As a result, team boss Kevin Doran concluded a deal for the pair to share the #77 car in the Brumos Porsche 250, with the entry carrying further sponsorship from South African Airways for the weekend.

“Dion and Hennie really surprised me,” Doran said. “They had a very professional approach to the test, showed very competitive times, and worked very well with each other and the team. I feel they both have very bright futures in this sport.”

Groenewald said he was delighted with the chance to make his debut in front of what should be a bumper crowd as Grand Am shares the Daytona bill with the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

“I am really excited to get to drive the Doran DP at Daytona, as this is quite likely to be one of the bigger events to choose from, driving in front of the NASCAR crowd and so many spectators. After a very successful test in Mid Ohio both my teammate Dion and I are comfortable with the car.

“At the test the #77 McDonalds/South African Airways car showed all the potential for a podium performance at Daytona. This is really a huge opportunity for both of us to show that we are ready to deliver great results in this series and driving a DP car makes the experience so much better.”
