The Australian had qualified fifth but pitted on lap six, reporting steering troubles. Two laps later, he was forced to bring the #8 Aussie Vineyards car back into the pits - and 'behind the wall' - for lengthy repairs as a result of a broken bolt in the front suspension. Although he re-entered the race many laps down in an attempt to gain as many championship points as possible, the attrition rate wasn't as high as he and the KVRT team had hoped, and he was eventually classified in 22nd position. He was, however, able to prove his pace once back on track, and posted the fastest lap of the race on lap 67.
“I am just really disappointed,” Power admitted, “The Aussie Vineyards-Team Australia car was really quick, we were getting good fuel mileage and then there was a mechanical failure. The crew did a great job getting me back in the race but, being so many laps behind, we were really in it to try and get as many points as possible.”
The remaining four races of the championship campaign are split equally between road courses and ovals and, despite not knowing any of the tracks in question, both Servia and Power will be hoping to grab that elusive podium before the series heads to the Aussie's homeland for what is expected to be an exhibition event on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
