IndyCar » BAT flies in to Long Beach


BAT Engineering's Alan Mertens and Bruce Ashmore will use this weekend's flagship Long Beach GP to continue to pitch their IndyCar design.

God, its like a child's toy! Why oh why are these company's trying to re-invent the way Indycars look? These machines are getting more and more stupid looking. The cart cars of the late 90's were in my opinion some of the prettiest machines ever designed in any form of modern motorsport. Of the new designs only Lola cars have kept things pure. The rest look like something Matt Lucas dreamed up! It's not just the racing that interests people to the sport. A good looking machine makes it easier on the eye too.

I agree with most everything you say airconjon. The cars from the CART days were beautiful and very, very fast! I prefer the Swift concept the best, as I feel the Lola looks too much like the cars of the past. The Swift looks like the future, without being over the top.

I have to admit Don that i was unaware of Swifts concept and i just had a quick look at it. It is certainly an interesting looking machine. Im quite sure the final product wont look like whats in the press release. I do hope the lack of an overhead airduct and a pop-off valve on the back of the swift means turbo engines will be back!!! Indycar racing has built up its image since the mid 80's with handsome powerfull cars and wheel to wheel racing that only other forms could dream & pray for. If they change their image too much it may as well be another series like A1GP, only in America! That is what i fear. You loose your identity you loose your core fanbase. You loose your fanbase..its over.

Write a set of regulations for the next 10 years ...let multiple chassis develop their own chassis using their own ingenuity and creativity and bring back engine manufacturers and compete!
The best Indycar years were when we had Penske, Lola, Dallara, Swift chassis. Ford, Chevy, Honda, etc. engines.
There... done...
