IndyCar » Lotus to supply engines for IndyCar in 2012


Group Lotus is to supply IndyCar engines from 2012, joining Honda and Chevrolet as series manufacturers.

With Tony George out of the picture, it looks like bright things are happening for the series. A return to turbos is a definite plus and having the "real" Lotus involved can only be a positive for the series and Lotus. Hopefully the fake Lotus will fade into obscurity.

Nice news for IRL indeed even if I'm not a great fan of turbos on OW. But if it entices more manufacturers, why not. Who's next ? Mercedes ? Ford ?

I think these will be just rebranded cosworth engines. After all Kevin Kalkhoven who own KV racing is the owner of cosworth, and his team ran the Lotus branded car for Sato.

If the series stays strong it can once again become a real alternative to F1 in years to come
