IndyCar » Firestone to quit US open-wheel racing


Tyre manufacturer Firestone is to pull out of IndyCar and Indy Lights at the end of 2011, including ending its title sponsorship of the junior series.

.."no failures, but some puncture" ?? Whats a puncture if not a failure then ??. And I'm sure Micheal Andretti had two sudden failures. Like one year in Long Beach and another at Road America which sent into the wall on both occasions.The second was fairly funny as live on the tv he shouts..."F....ing tyre !" and it just made him crash while running in second place.

A puncture is caused by something external to the tire so isn't a failure of the tire... a failure of a tire would be defined as something going wrong with the tire without any external factors

I just don't understand why these racing formula's can't adjust to using a larger rim??? thats the only real reason Bridgestone left F1 and is probably the only reason their American division are leaving Indycars

sharla82. andretti's tyre failure @ long beach was caused by a coming together at the hairpin with i think, Bobby Rahal. His tyre was cut by his own front wing. It wasn't a failure of the tyre.Same at Road America.
