What kind of farcical, unprofessional, joke of sport is it that allows teams to sell their place to someone who did not qualify?

I thought it was the 1st of April when I started reading this.

Pathetic and yet another sad example of the corruption of money in motorSPORT(although I am not sure if this last word is appropriate!)I hope the Andretti team sponsors are pleased with the deal and will not crow too loudly if their driver does well in the race!

Good job we don't have this stupidity in F1,Hjust imagine HRT buying Redbull grid position!
Just hope Bernie doesn't hear about this & get one of his "bright ideas"!

AJ Foyt and Michael Andretti should be ashamed of themselves. They are bringing the sport into disrepute and giving the Indy 500 a real bad name because they can buy and sell a grid spot to a driver that wasn't good enough to qualify.Shame on you and shame on the US motosport industry for devaluing a great race.

It's hardly the same as HRT buying a Red Bull grid slot.

Any driver substitutions means they start at the back, so its more like someone failing to make the 107% rule buying their way back in - that is far more dangerous as they haven't proved they are quick enough not just be in the way!

This is a disgrace!!

It's one thing when a team substitutes it's OWN driver for one of the other who is in the points battle but to sell your spot to ANOTHER TEAM is outrageous!

Ok, I get that AJ was paying out of pocket - but he knew that going in. Andretti's team should also be ashamed - take your lumps like a f'king man. Team Penske had to leave one year with their tails between their legs. It happens every year - someone who is expected to make it doesn't - that's Indy.

I'm gutted for Junky! This is bullsh1t that he made it into the show fair and square and was sold down the river in some back room back alley deal. He better get some more rides this year for getting bent over and screwed.

Hey, I'm rich! it too late to buy that seat...this is one of the many reasons I always root for the other andretti, John. Mario's brother's kid.

Love that he's teamed w/ Richard Petty Racing...and he quietly qualified 17th.

And what's with Mario horning in on Tagliani's pole picture at the brick strip...oh, he's Italian so he's somehow part of that...

Go John!...whip your embarrasing relatives...

I'm at a loss for words. I understand Andretti's position, he has sponsors to pay and not showing on the grid is no good but wtf happened. MAR was always a frotn runner. How the .... did they get dropped completely. MA should reconsider not the crew chiefs alone but perhaps his role. It is making the Andretti name, and consequently the Foyt name, a mockery.

Now you have ugly ,slow old crap boxes. But you do have a pretty good field..... but WHO CARES. You ****ed the fans over beyond believe in your pursuit of money money money!!!

I have found MOTOGP and WSBK, so thanks for that you greedy ****ers!
