IndyCar » Indianapolis 500 - Race results

Dan Wheldon was never far from the front of the field during the three hours of the 2011 Indy 500, but he never looked like winning and never led a lap. Except the last one.

"A potential challenge to the race result from Panther (on the grounds that the race order should have been frozen when Hildebrand hit the wall, giving Panther the win) did not materialise."

WTF? What an unbelievable claim....pathetic

Gotta agree with that !

Hildebrand should NOT even be in the results !
I thought the cars had to pass an inspection for legality after the race ?

If Oriol Servia was already passing Scott Dixon but then the yellow flag came out shouldn't he have been allowed to complete his pass? Why would they take that away? but it was ok to pass the crashed car and win? Only Target Chip Ganassi would get away with that, they couldn't stand not having one of their cars in the top 5. Oriol Servia is one of the best drivers ever. He drove a great race, led 18 laps and should have finished in the top 3, Don't take away the #5 spot. He is #1 with us.

Yellow flag wasn't out when Wheldon took the lead - it WAS out when Servia passed Dixon. QED. Same thing happened last year with Marco and Alex Lloyd.

Anyway, they made it pretty clear that a crashed car doesn't count as being "protected" by a yellow flag when it comes to overtaking, it would just be plain absurd and was Panther looking for a loophole to keep the win. Not that I blame them, I'd try anything too!
