IndyCar » Jean Alesi to enter Indy 500 with Lotus


Former Ferrari F1 driver Jean Alesi has confirmed that he's bidding for glory in the 2012 Indianapolis 500 race after signing up with Group Lotus for the greatest spectacle in motor racing.

Cool. But one or two oval race or at least some practice in time before Indy 500 should make it easier for Alesi to hopefully put on a good show.

That's a good idea in principle, but I think the Indy 500 is usually the first oval race of the season so there wouldn't be any opportunity to do that. Too late this season, and no point with the old chassis/engine anyway.

On the other hand, everyone will be in the same boat at Indy re: first time on an oval in the new car.

lol..Rumor has it no one has signed with lotus because lotus is not returning calls to the teams. There is serious concern in indycar that lotus will not have its engine ready in time. Each engine manufacture Is allowed to supply up to 40% of the engines. So Chevy and Honda has grabbed 80% of the field. They don't even want a bigger share because they are subsidizing engine costs. 20 % of the teams are now solely dependent on lotus and very nervous.. will lotus let them down?
