IndyCar » Newman/Haas pull Indy 500 entry: Alesi out?

Newman/Haas has withdrawn its entry for next month's Indianapolis 500, leaving Jean Alesi without a car and the race at risk of falling short of a full 33-car field.

Its really no big surprise but the excuse 'There's not enough money to do it' is ridiculous. A serious lack of effort to take part in 'The Greatest Spectacle in Racing' that's the INDY 500.

I wonder what the talk will be about in Brazil this Week-end ?
I would tend to think there will end up being a "PAY" driver entered with the "COST " possibly being split by Indy Car . They went through too much PR when the change over happened to be EMBARRESSED by having a SHORT field

Avoids probable non qualification - the Lotus engine is so far behind the Honda & Chevys that the Lotus runners are guaranteed to be last on the grid - and thats before taking into account that none of the Lotus runners are oval specialists and are all road course runners - Seabass/Simona/Katherine while Alesi has NO oval experience

I suspect this is all a bit of face-saving for Lotus before all 4 wheels fall off, so to speak.

a) the engine is clearly inferior to the Chevvy and Honda at the moment. It might come good but with so few teams thats increasingly unlikely.

b) the parent company is in all kinds of trouble and might not even last in its current form by the Indy weekend. Plus, I presume Group Lotus are in some way funding the engine development ahead of team income so have they been paying the bills?

c) Alesi has hardly been too active recently, so how could he realistically expect to be anything other than near the back. If he'd been racing e.g. in sportscars than maybe but not otherwise.

Terrific, This is STILL a rinky dink semi KIT CAR Series that has mostly terrable TV coverage and piss ant red neck mangement. TIDE ferrari racing, last ferrari to finish in top 5 and win class,IMSA at LeMans. TIDE pozzi ferrari france 81 LeMans. 512BBLM 512 BBLM 31589.
