Mike was lucky to survive his crash at Indy in 2010. He's had several scary moments.

Wheldon was killed in the season finale last year, and in 1999 the budding superstar Greg Moore was killed at Fontana.

You not only have to be skilled, you have to be brave to run at these speeds on the Super Speedways. Good luck Mike, and Godspeed to all in the Saturday night race.

Brave decision, but if he's not feeling happy out there it's the right one.

Bourdais has multiple wins on ovals in Champ Car (Milwaukee and LVMS) but won't race on them anymore, Power is awesome on road/street but struggles on ovals and even Dario as a four-time champion and three-time Indy 500 winner took years in the US before he was competitive consistently on the ovals, so Conway is far from alone.

I think most people don't realize how lucky this guy is to be alive. Many drivers died in far less tragic ovals accidents like DW's. I just find it weird that he went back to racing and raced ovals but only now has decided to call it a day. Maybe he recovered memories of the crash recently and now know himself God not IHS gave him a new chance!

Well that's a great way to kill a career.

"I have no credentials but I'm going to be picky anyway."

Beggars can't be choosers, and there are 100's of young talented drivers who would kill to be given the chance that Mike here is blowing.

Bourdais' been mentioned, but he has quite a few championships to back it up.

Kubica got back in a rally car. If Mike is feeling jittery then he needs to change careers, it's not like those feelings get better with age.

It does seem like an odd time to make this call, last race of the season. I can't imagine his sponsors are too thrilled either. Mike doesn't think so, but this could be a career killer unless he wants to move to a different formula.

I could have understood if he would have hung it up immediately after his horrific Indy crash. He was very luck to have survived. Maybe his decision was just a delayed reaction.

Bourdais decision to do only the ovals was partly funding based I believe. I think he'll be doing the full schedule next year.

Hoping for a safe race on Saturday night, and good luck to all. GO RHR!!!

Odd time to make the call, one race from the end of the season. But fair play to him for stepping forward and saying "not for me".

If you've not got the balls then you've not got the balls.

Yeah, that's what I believe too, in addition to that there was the initial Peugeot WEC program in which Bourdais was supposed to take part.
