KGBVD,

Indycar is cost-capped. Their cars are purposely slower.

Teams like KV Racing, Penske, and Ganassi have the resources to make it to F1.

Champ Car being on the same track as F1 lowered Formula 1's racing fee. Because the race organizers will play them against each other.

It was specifically after that race that they decided to not share tracks. I think there are pros and cons to both of them.

A race organizer will make more money hosting an Indycar race than an F1 race. Indycar actually makes money for it's backers. F1 races are paid for by governments. So no one checks to see if there's any return on investment.

It costs $3 million to host Indycar and $20 million to host F1.

David,

Judging by the number of promoters who go bankrupt I would say that Indy doesn't do a very good job making money for its race organizers.

F1 is subsidized because it being in huge crowds. Montreal race gets over $40M a year, yet the city is absolutely jam packed for the weekend. Some say the economic impact is in the $100's of millions. Think of it as a stimulus.

Indy is just a another sport, not a global event.

Regardless, another prime reason why they don't run on the same tracks is that F1 has massively higher standards than Indy. You'd never see F1 at the vast majority of tracks on the Indy calendar. Montreal was really their only shot (Indy doesn't count). Indy still goes to tracks F1 outgrew decades ago.

Come to think of it, if this event becomes confirmed, it could be an attempt by Dallara to have a home race, since it is the only constructor in Indycar.

Dallara is Italian and the Mugello Circuit is somewhat close to their headquarters (from the map it looks to be a couple hours drive to Parma for me).

Honda used to have the race at Motegi to advertise itself, when it was the unique engine supplier.
