IndyCar » Dario Franchitti to retire from motor racing


Three-time Indy 500 winner and four-time IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti is to retire from motor racing as a result of the injuries he sustained in a crash in October.

I guess you mean the Mercs BT? Good driver even then, but shame he was having to pay second fiddle to Bernd Shneider.

I don't doubt this is a very sensible decision, but it'll be a shame to not have him around.

Thanks Dario for the great racing over the years and firmly sticking to your Scottish routes and giving something back to young Scottish championships. All the best in your retirement.

Such a shame, but you have to respect the guy for making such a tough decision. He's won everything going in IndyCar and has nothing left to prove, although being part of the four time 500 club would have been epic. Wish him all the best!

Have to wonder what this means for IndyCar. As much as I love the series it has suffered greatly over the past few years. Adapt or die.

@andrew2k I doubt Ashley Judd would have played too big a role in Dario's decision, last time I heard they had split earlier this year...

Very unexpected but I reckon he has just decided he has had enough. I dont think it had nothing to do with "Doctors orders", if it were a 20 year old he would fight on but Dario's now 40. This much said, IndyCar goes on. Thanks for the memories Dario.
