Press Snoop: SeBas is back

SEBASTIEN BOURDAIS/#1 Newman Haas Lanigan Racing won from the pole Sunday in Champ Car's World Series race at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach - his third consecutive victory at The Beach. He now has 24 Champ Car wins. SeBas is back!

Bourdais said: "I can't thank the team hard enough for what they've done because, again, they went to bed way past midnight and woke up at 4 this morning and they were there at the track to get the cars ready. It's just unbelievable how much effort they put into it. It's really definitely a team effort that's been rewarded today and I really enjoyed the ride."

Finishing second was Super Spaniard, ORIOL SERVIA/#3 Forsythe Championship Racing, substituting for the injured PAUL TRACY, who crashed Saturday morning during Champ Car practice. Servia pitted early, at the first caution, and utilized his off-sequence pit stop strategy to his advantage - with three stops to the two used by most drivers. He started fourteenth, led seven laps, and ran a strong second after moving up from third. Servia gained the most positions in the race - 12, earning a Bonus Point.

He said: "Well, as you can only imagine, I wasn't expecting to be here. I wanted, but I wasn't expecting to be here when I came on Friday. So just very happy. You know, I mean, I was given the opportunity. And I knew that the car was going to be good and the team was going to do a good job. I knew that if I wasn't too rusty, I could do a good job, too. So, you know, I took the opportunity."

Third was WILL POWER/#5 Team Australia, who used Push to Pass power to get by ALEX TAGLIANI/#8 RSPORTS. "I had a chance and I took it." Evidently Tag's team-mate followed suit, as JUSTIN WILSON/#9 RSPORTS finished fourth and Tag was fifth.

Power currently leads the points with 59, followed by ALEX TAGLIANI with 44. Bourdais is now third with 40 points. BRUNO JUNQUEIRA/#19 Dale Coyne Racing finished sixth and is fourth in the standing with 36 points. ROBERT DOORNBOS/#14 Team Minardi USA is the top Rookie in fifth place with 35 points.

The top Rookie was NEEL JANI/#21 PKV Racing in seventh place, followed by the fastest qualifying Rookie, GRAHAM RAHAL/#2 Newman Haas Lanigan Racing, who started and ran fifth until the first round of pit stops. Rahal finished eighth.

Rookie RYAN DALZIEL/#28 Pacific Coast Motorsports was ninth and KATHERINE LEGGE was tenth.

Bourdais led three times for 58 laps of the 78-lap race on the 1.968-mile street course and his average race speed was 91.432 mph. The race ran for 1.40:43.975, a new record.

MARIO DOMINGUEZ/#7 Forsythe Championship Racing spun backwards into the Turn Nine tyre wall, bringing out the first caution. His day was ended after seven laps. He said: "I just made a mistake, I got on the brakes pretty hard and locked up the tyres and just lost control of the car."
