The entry list for the 91st Indianapolis 500 numbered 69 cars, 31 being T- or back-up cars, but only 33 have been on course so far this week.
All the cars on track Saturday were 'full month' teams, those who have month-long contracts with Honda and Firestone for engines and tyres. The teams with smaller budgets contract for 'one week', so they only come out for the Bump Day week, and then the race. Of those, not all have lined up their drivers.
Two of the TBA team entries won't be competing in the Indy 500. AJ Foyt Enterprises entered the #50/50T and #41/41T, both Dallaras, but Foyt's team said #41 was converted to #50 for 'Little Al' UNSER Jr. The graphics and numbers were changed, and there will be no #41 for the race. The other TBA team which won't be racing is Team Penske which entered a third team, with no number or driver listed.
Another TBA team not expected to race is Cabbie Motorsports, which entered the #13 Panoz. It entered on time, but has not made any Honda engine contracts and its garage is being used by Honda to store engines.
Both of the Playa Del Racing teams started out as second week teams, but earlier this week more funding came through for JAQUES LAZIER, so he is here this week and got on the track for the first time Thursday in practice. The other PDR car will run rookie PHIL GIEBLER with no T-car. Jaques' brother, BUDDY LAZIER, 1996 Indy 500 winner, is entered with Sam Schmidt Motorsports. He is here but hasn't yet tried to qualify. PJ JONES is entered with #40 Team Leader/Dollander Racing but isn't here this week.
Drivers still looking for rides include JOHN ANDRETTI, who is at Indy, as is his father, ALDO ANDRETTI - twin brother of MARIO ANDRETTI - and MAX PAPIS, who isn't here, unless he's in deep stealth mode.
Three TBA entries are CURB/Agajanian/Beck Motorsports #43 and #98 Dallara - one of which Papis is rumoured to be lining up - and the #43 Hemelgarn Racing Dallara. They haven't yet been assigned garages.
