Camara to test with Conquest at Homestead.

The IndyCar Series received a welcome boost when one of the quieter teams of the winter emerged from hibernation by confirming that it intended to run at next week's group test at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Having run two cars throughout 2008, Conquest Racing had yet to reveal its hand ahead of what many expect to be a financially-tough 2009 campaign, but confirmed that it is gearing up for the Homestead test, where Jaime Camara will return to the cockpit to offer the benefit of his IndyCar experience to evaluate refinements made to the team's Dallara-Honda.

Having had time to time to look back in detail at last season in order to see what worked, what didn't and what needed improvement, Conquest confirmed that it had been hard at work over the last few months working on developments for 2009, and is anxious to get back to the racetrack in order to measure progress.

“We learned a lot over the course of 2008, and we've been pretty busy working on developments that will enhance the team's performance in 2009,” team owner Eric Bachelart commented, “Now we're looking forward to evaluating them on track as we continue to prepare for the start of the season in less than two months.”

Although no definitive announcement has been made regarding the 2009 line-up, Camara will be back in the #34 car for the Homestead test, having competed in 14 races for the team last season. Canadian veteran Alex Tagliani has been linked to a possible return, having closed out the 2008 campaign, but Conquest is keen to stress that no decisions have been taken at this time.

“We wanted to put someone in the car that knew how we worked, knew our car and would be able to help us evaluate the development we have done,” Bachelart explained, “Since he drove a majority of ovals for us last year, Jaime was the perfect fit.”

The first open test of the season takes place over 24-25 February.
