Having opted against joining the majority of the IndyCar Series field in the two-day Open Test at Barber Motorsports Park on Sunday and Monday, HVM Racing has confirmed that it will continue its preparation for the St Petersburg season-opener at Sebring.
Keith Wiggins' operation will run a private session over 25-26 March, with 2008 stalwart EJ Viso and former HVM driver Ryan Hunter-Reay sharing seat time in the Venezuelan's #13 PDVSA Dallara-Honda Dallara. Plans to test Hunter-Reay in a second car were changed when an additional car could not be obtained in time for the test, but the team remains hopeful that it can field the American in a second entry at some point in the season.
“As planned, we are testing at Sebring in preparation for the first two events,” Wiggins confirmed, “We'll have two great drivers testing for us, and that should give us good feedback to develop a pretty good package for St Pete and Long Beach.”
The team continues to work with Rahal Letterman refugee Hunter-Reay while it 'pursues opportunities' that may provide the Watkins Glen race winner with the chance to continue in the series for 2009. It is at pains, however, to stress that no agreement has yet been reached with the driver.
