Having apparently come close to running Ryan Hunter-Reay this season, HVM Racing has revealed that it will field a second car in the forthcoming Indianapolis 500, with former HVM driver Nelson Philippe at the wheel.
The partnership has already tasted success together, with Frenchman Philippe taking an HVM car to victory in Surfers Paradise during his first spell with the team in the now defunct Champ Car World Series. His return will not only mark his return to the team for the first time since 2006, but also a first appearance in the now unified IndyCar Series.
“We are excited to have Nelson driving again for HVM Racing,” team principal Keith Wiggins admitted, “He won for us in 2006, which was quite an accomplishment for such a young driver, and also had his best ever season. Although he is coming back be to a new series, a new track, huge competition and at the biggest event of the year, we will work together to achieve a good result. We always like challenges.”
Sponsorship of Philippe's car - which will run alongside HVM regular EJ Viso's #13 PDVSA Dallara - will be announced shortly.
