Townsend Bell has been added to the driver line-up for the Indianapolis 500 after inking a deal to run a third car with KV Racing Technology.

Bell, who has two Indy 500 starts to his name, will be at the wheel of the #8 Herbalife-backed car from the second week of on-track action and will line-up alongside Paul Tracy and Mario Moraes in the KVRT squad.

The 34-year-old will now look to improve on his best Indy 500 result of tenth, which he secured last season with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.

"This is a race that I can't miss; I have to be here, which makes it really exciting," he said. "If you look at the progression KV made last year coming in as a new team, post-Speedway their oval programme really started to improve, and it has carried through this year. I've been watching that.

"To me, it's just an incredible opportunity to come in and have no concerns about the competitiveness of the program and the quality of the equipment and people, and put what I know and what I've learned and put that to good use. I'm looking forward to having a fast race car and making the most of it."

Team co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven was quick to welcome Bell into the team and said he would be a positive addition for the month of May.

"Townsend is a proven talent who will provide valuable experience and knowledge to the team during the month of May," he said. "I also want to welcome and thank Herbalife for joining our effort. Herbalife is an outstanding company, and we appreciate their support of Townsend and KVRT."
