Indianapolis qualifying order revealed

Friday afternoon just prior to the chequered flag for the Fast Friday Indianapolis 500 practice session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the traditional qualifying draw was held.

A representative from each team drew a number out of a helmet, which determined the order in which the cars will qualify. It's first come, first serve to line up for the draw. The word is that Floyd Ganassi, father of Chip Ganassi of Target Chip Ganassi Racing, usually gets to the designated spot hours ahead of time just to be first in line.

This year the drawing was held on the Coke Stage for the fans, with IMS Radio broadcaster, Bob Jenkins, doing the honours.

Although no announcement has yet been made by Rahal Letterman Racing, it's #17 entry is in qualifying order. In the garage, a black tub with royal blue engine covers is parked, with a couple of crew sort of hanging out. Oriol Servia's name is on the car, and the crew were sort of surprised no announcement had yet been made.

All six rookies have passed all four of their Orientation Phases, with Stanton Barrett the final person to complete the required laps.
