Edmonton will stage its IndyCar Series event in July next year after the city council unanimously voted to honour the final year of its three-year deal with the Indy Racing League.
The event had been in doubt after organisers lost $3.9 million this season and $5.3 million in 2008.
"Every councillor realises that we can't be a city that doesn't honour our commitments," Councillor Kim Krushell told TSN.CA
. "Yes, we're moving forward with 2010. Are we happy about losing dollars? No."
Edmonton mayor Stephen Mandel meanwhile added that the losses in 2010 should be less, he also predicted that a new agreement could be reached for 2011, as the race is a 'valuable tourist attraction'.
The event at Edmonton City Centre Airport is scheduled for July 25, one week after the round in Toronto.
