DRR signs Beatriz for Sao Paolo

Indy Lights star Ana Beatriz will make the step up to the IZOD IndyCar Series for her home race in Brazil.

Dreyer and Reinbold Racing will give Ana Beatriz her IZOD IndyCar Series debut when the 2010 campaign kicks off in her home country of Brazil on 14 March.

The Sao Paulo native will step up to the IndyCar Series after competing in the Firestone Indy Lights category for the last two seasons, finishing third in the 2008 standings for Sam Schmidt Motorsports after taking one win and nine top-five finishes.

“We are excited about going to Brazil for the first time with the IZOD IndyCar Series as it makes its travels down to South America and putting Ana Beatriz in our car at Brazil adds another dimension to our programme," DRR team owner Dennis Reinbold commented, "We are happy to have her on board for the Brazil race, and will be testing her at Sebring this weekend. We are excited to get her acclimated to the car as she was a very talented Indy Lights driver."

Beatriz became the first female driver to win in Firestone Indy Lights when she won at Nashville in July 2008 and, as a result, was named winner of the Firestone Indy Lights Rising Star Award. Previous motorsport involvement saw her test for A1GP's Team Brazil in 2007, while she raced in Sud-Am F3 in 2006.

“I was very happy when my manager, Andre Ribeiro, came back from Indianapolis and had set everything up with DRR," she admitted, "Hopefully, we can get the rest together for the whole season.

"I'm really, really excited and happy to be here. I think the team is very professional and I have great team-mates with Mike Conway and Justin Wilson. I hope that I can learn a lot from these British drivers. This is very special for me doing my debut in the IZOD IndyCar race at my home event, and it's also very special to be the first female Brazilian driver to race there. It will be a great experience.”

Beatriz will test an IndyCar for the first time at Sebring this weekend, before the Dreyer & Reinbold team heads back to Indianapolis to put the final touches to its cars for the trip to Brazil.
