Sato can't wait for his first ever IndyCar race

Former Honda and Super Aguri F1 man Takuma Sato will make his debut in the IZOD IndyCar Series this weekend when he competes in the season opening, Sao Paulo Indy 300.
Takuma Sato will make his debut in the IZOD IndyCar Series this weekend with KV Racing Technology.

Sato, who inked a deal with the Indianapolis-based outfit last month, was an encouraging sixth quickest recently during testing at Barber Motorsports Park.

Now the former F1 star is gearing up for the season opener, the Sao Paulo Indy 300, and while he concedes he will have a lot to learn this year, he is still confident he can deliver.

"I'm extremely excited that my entirely new challenge is just around the corner," said Taku. "It's a new season with a totally new environment.

"It's needless to say that I have a lot to learn about the IZOD Indycar Series but with my experienced team-mates and such an established top team KV Racing Technology, I am confident that I can find the speed quickly and I believe we will become strong contenders in the league.

"I cannot wait now to start my first ever Indycar race in the very enthusiastic streets of Saõ Paulo."

KV Racing Technology general manager Mark Johnson meanwhile is looking forward to seeing what Takuma - and his team-mates, E.J. Viso and Mario Moraes - can do.

"I am excited to get the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series season underway," said Johnson. "We've made a lot of progress over the last two seasons and I feel we have a very strong team for 2010.

"The engineering staff, the mechanics and the drivers are all experienced professionals who have worked very hard. Now it is time to see how we stack up against the competition," he summed-up.
