Scheckter racing for Sarah Fisher at Vegas

South African racing driver Tomas Scheckter will be competing in the season finale event at Las Vegas, running alongside Ed Carpenter for the Sarah Fisher Racing team.
Tomas Scheckter will be driving the Sarah Fisher Racing green and white #57 Angie's List Special car in the IZOD IndyCar World Championships Presented by Honda season finale event at Las Vegas next month.

It will be Scheckter's fourth race of the 2011 season, after having previously run in the KV Racing Technology-SH Racing car at Indianapolis, and then taking over the #22 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing car in place of the injured Justin Wilson for the oval race on the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Scheckter's last outing was on the new Baltimore street course in a DRR/SH Racing joint entry.

Schckter had been a possibility to take the last two oval races in the #22 once Justin Wilson was ruled out for the remainder of the season, but instead Townsend Bell will take that seat. Scheckter insists that he's happy with the outcome and that he gets to race for SFR with his old Vision Racing team mate Ed Carpenter.

"They want to win races and they spend the money in the right places," he said, referring to Fisher and her husband and team co-owner Andy O'Gara. "They have a good group of people here and it's a family organization that's about winning races. As a driver, you want to be a part of that."

"I used to race a lot with Tomas when I was in the car years ago and I know he has a huge desire to do extremely well and has a real knack at oval racing," said Fisher, who gave birth to her first child, daughter Zoey, two weeks ago. "He's a great talent and has been a great teammate to Ed Carpenter, so I think he brings a lot from that aspect. We look for some really great things at Vegas."

"I think we have a very good chance at Vegas," agreed Scheckter, who pointed out how well Carpenter had been able to run on recent ovals and especially at Indianapolis in May. "I think you'll see some of the best racing of the season there."

It will be the first time this year that SFR have been able to field two cars. While Scheckter's run is for Vegas only, Carpenter will be in action before that in the Kentucky Indy 300 this weekend. It will be his first race since New Hampshire where he finished in 11th place for the third time this year following that controversial rain-hit restart, the team having since sat out the road races and the fly-away trip to Motegi.

Fisher herself will be at Kentucky for the penultimate race of 2011 and doubtless happy to be being a little lighter on her feet at last. She said she'll be bringing along baby Zoey as well: "We're looking forward to taking her to Kentucky for her first race."

Let the sweepstakes commence for when Zoey will be making her Indy 500 début.
