Dan Wheldon's untimely passing in an accident at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday has not only resulted in an outpouring of emotion from the racing community, but has also fostered several fund-raising initiatives in his memory.

Details of the IndyCar Series' memorial service for the British driver emerged at the same time as information on how to donate to a trust fund being set up for Wheldon's family, while fellow driver Graham Rahal revealed that he is co-ordinating an auction of sporting memorabilia in a further bid to help Susie Wheldon and the couple's two young sons.

IndyCar will hold a public memorial service to celebrate Wheldon's life at Conseco Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis on Sunday [23 October], starting at 4pm local time. Meanwhile, the Dan Wheldon Family Trust Fund has been established in order for the public to make contributions to the family's financial security. Donations can be made from today [Wednesday 19 October] via the following address:

Fifth Third Private Bank
Attn: Dan Wheldon Family Trust
251 North Illinois St.
Suite 1000
IN 46204

More details on how to contribute will be available in the coming days, while Rahal's auction also expects to make further information available once the Chip Ganassi Racing driver had had time to process the exceptional response to his idea. The son of former series champion Bobby Rahal revealed, via Facebook and Twitter, that he had been inundated with offers of memorabilia, both from the motorsport fraternity and other sports, and has promised that there will be lots to suit all pockets.

Rahal hopes to keep interested bidders posted with updates via his Facebook fan site .

A separate memorial site for Wheldon, which includes both a career photo retrospective and a Facebook link for fans to leave condolences and remembrances, has been set up by GoDaddy.com.
