Ed Carpenter signs up with Chevrolet

The meeting - which is open to the public and also being streamed live over the Internet - will also cover issues such as the new rule book being developed by president of competition Beaux Barfield and the new races this season that include a return to Detroit Belle Isle and a first-ever visit to China.

CEO Randy Bernard will address the meeting, and made it clear that he saw his role as developing the appeal of the sport for fans and non-fans alike.

"How do we work together to make changes in our sport that aren't about competition, but about entertainment and making everyone a part of it?" he said. “My job is to make sure that we're looking at not just this year, but three, four, five years down the road."

The State of the IndyCar event is scheduled to start at 5.30pm ET (10.30pm GMT).
