Scott Dixon may be the ultimate Mr Consistency working in motor sports today. You may not always notice him plugging away race after race, season after season, no matter who this season's main rival is or what changes there have been to technical specifications; but he certainly gets the job done time and again in his understated, quiet Kiwi fashion. It's great that such lasting talent gets due recognition by the
Crash.net voters with a second consecutive fourth place in the Driver of the Year standings.
If not for some problems with the new-spec Honda engine's initial power and reliability compared with its Chevrolet counterpart, Dixon would have surely have been a strong outright contender for this year's championship - even though his three other Ganassi stable mates were out of the title running almost from the start. In the first six races of the year Dixon finished second three times and won at Detroit; he won again later in the year at Mid-Ohio and finished the season on the podium at Fontana.
In the end he was just 33 points behind the 2012 champion and was the highest-placed of the Honda-powered drivers in third place in the final standings. In the circumstances, that really is actually a rather impressive year.
