Season summary:

It was always going to be hard for Ryan Hunter-Reay to follow-up his dream season in 2012 that saw him win the IndyCar Series championship in a thrilling final race play-off with Will Power. Now the dream is over and Hunter-Reay will have to turn in the number 1 designation on his car, after a solid season but nonetheless one that just failed to sparkle sufficiently to allow him to seriously defend his title. He did clinch two race wins - at Alabama and Milwaukee - and finished in the top ten in almost half the races of the season, but that was still only enough to see him end this year's campaign in seventh place having never really having featured in the championship fight. Perhaps 2014 will be kinder to him, coming as it does with Andretti Autosport's switch to Honda power.
