Season summary:

The first race of the 2013 season saw a new addition to the list of race winners in the IndyCar Series when James Hinchcliffe pipped Helio Castroneves to victory at St Petersburg way back in March. It was a popular and well-deserved win for the likeable Canadian, who had stepped into the lime green cockpit formerly occupied by Danica Patrick until her move to NASCAR. Hinch went on to prove that his win was no fluke with follow-up victories at Sao Paulo and Iowa, but for much of the season it was a case of feast or famine. Ultimately there were too many early retirements to allow him to put together the kind of momentum-building consistency that allows drivers to really compete for a championship. Still, all things considered it's been a pretty awesome break-out season, eh?
