The 2012 GP2 Series champion Davide Valsecchi has announced he will be partaking in his first IndyCar Series test after being given a shot by the Schmidt Peterson team at Sebring.

The Italian, who has maintained a relatively low profile since clinching the F1 feeder category title in 2012, will get his maiden outing in the car on December 16th in Sebring alongside newly-signed James Hinchcliffe.

Valsecchi's appearance at the IndyCar test will be seen as a concerted desire to pursue a career in the United States after his fortunes in Europe stalled in the wake of winning the GP2 Series title. Since that success, Valsecchi spent a year as Lotus' F1 test driver for 2013 - where he was controversially overlooked for a two race stint in favour of Heikki Kovalainen - and has spent 2014 competing in the Spanish-based GT Open.
