Milwaukee Mile: Wilson handed Andretti drive for final five rounds

British driver Justin Wilson is set to compete in the final five rounds of the 2015 IndyCar championship with Andretti Autosport
British driver Justin Wilson is set to compete in the remainder of the IndyCar championship with Andretti Autosport and will join up with the team at this weekend's race at the Milwaukee Mile circuit.

“It's obviously great to be back with Andretti Autosport for the remainder of the season,” said Wilson. “I'm really looking forward to making the most of these five races, and just trying to help the team and Honda as much as I can and try and be successful.

"It's not going to be easy jumping in toward the end of the year," he admitted. "Everyone's worked out what they're looking for from the car and the aero kits, but I think it puts us in good shape for learning things and trying to progress… and hopefully set something up towards next year.

"We'll have to take it one step at a time, but the great thing with IndyCar racing is any weekend anyone can win; you just have to make sure you do a good job and do everything as perfect as you can, and that will lead to good results."

The former F3000 champion made his début appearance for Andretti at the Indianapolis Grand Prix and then competed alongside regular drivers Ryan Hunter-Reay, Carlos Munoz and Marco Andretti along with Swiss driver Simona de Silvestro at the Indy 500. Since then Wilson has also driven for the US team in the inaugural Formula E championship at the Moscow ePrix in June.

“We are really happy to bring Justin back for the rest of the season,” said team owner Michael Andretti. “He did a really great job for us at the Indianapolis races and is a great addition to the team. The only downside of getting him back in the car is that we weren't able to do it sooner.”

Wilson split from Dale Coyne Racing at the end of the 2014 season and since then the former IndyCar race winner has struggled to secure a full-time race seat but will now take over the #25 Andretti machine for the remainder of the year.

The Sheffield-born driver will contest the final five rounds of the 2015 IndyCar championship starting at the Milwaukee Mile in Wisconsin this weekend, followed by events at Iowa Speedway, Mid-Ohio Sport Car Course and Pocono Raceway.

The season wraps up in California with the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma on August 30.
