Carlin has expanded its Indy Lights squad into a three-car attack for 2016 as Neil Alberico joins the already announced Ed Jones and Felix Serralles.
The 23-year-old American driver finished last season as runner-up in the Pro Mazda champion, a stepping stone towards the IndyCar series, and notched up eight rostrum results including four wins.
The American says he's delighted to link up with the British squad who made an impressive debut in Indy Lights in 2015 with Jones and former F1 driver Max Chilton, taking four wins on its way to second place in the teams' championship.
“Carlin came to the US and immediately proved they could win races,” Alberico said. “They have a winning formula for success, so of course I am happy to be part of that for 2016. There will be challenges to adapt to as I learn the nuances of the new car, but driving alongside a pair of experienced teammates like Ed and Felix will help accelerate the learning process.”
Team boss Trevor Carlin says Alberico is a driver they'd been keeping tabs on throughout 2015 and is thrilled to expand his squad into a three-car attack.
“Neil was a driver who immediately caught our eye least season, from the outset he looked like one of the drivers to beat and throughout the year he handled himself very well both in and out of the car,” Carlin said. “We're extremely proud that Neil and his sponsors have chosen Carlin as the team with which to continue his career on the Mazda Road to Indy.
"Neil has impressed us already in the small amount of testing he has done with the team and we're really looking forward to seeing him race alongside Ed and Felix in what we believe is a very strong driver line-up.”
Alberico will join Jones and Serralles at the first pre-season test of the new year, a two-day run at Homestead on the 26-27 January.
