Will Power has bolted his Team Penske Chevrolet on to pole position at Road American after fending off Scott Dixon by less than two-tenths of a second to continue his re-ignition of his 2016 campaign.

The former IndyCar champion grabbed his first win in over a year at the second Detroit race last month and has maintained that momentum at Road American by taking a classy pole position on used tyres, keeping title challenger Dixon in second.

IndyCar regular Tony Kanaan saw his charge at the Wisconsin circuit given a boost with third on the grid ahead of title points leader Simon Pagenaud fresh from Le Mans 24 Hours with Ford.

The top three in the IndyCar driver standings are represented in the front five on the grid with Helio Castroneves in fifth ahead of Graham Rahal, Max Chilton and Ryan Hunter-Reay as Conor Daly and Carlos Munoz rounded out the top ten starters.
