Following the apparent demise of the Carmelo Anthony/Ron Hemelgarn IRL
IndyCar Series team, outspoken rookie PJ Chesson is searching for a new ride in a way only he could.
Although no official statement has been made from the Carmelo-Hemelgarn camp it appears as though a bad crash at Motegi followed by their lap two disaster at
Indianapolis where Jeff Bucknum collected teammate Chesson and eliminated both drivers may have been one crash too far for the underfunded outfit.
After missing the Watkins Glen race, something that oval specialist Chesson didn't profess to minding too much, missing Saturday's Bombardier Learjet 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway was a major disappointment for a driver known just as much for his tattoos and outrageous behaviour as he is for his driving.
A possible tie in with Panther Racing failed to come to fruition in time for the Texas race and now Chesson seems to have his sights set on a place with Eddie Cheever's team.
Former World of Outlaw driver Chesson spent the majority of the Texas weekend encamped in Cheever's pit wearing a unique belt with an LCD signboard on the front, which read 'Cheever is my Hero' on it.
“I'm not promising anything, but I'm working on something that looks promising,” said Chesson. “I think we're very close for something for Richmond. A couple of days maybe. I think it could be a really good fit. (Cheever) and I get along really well. He's a really cool, calm, collected guy.”
