Scott Dixon isn't giving up hope of the 2006 IRL IndyCar Series title without a fight after he took pole position for the penultimate round of the championship at the Infineon Raceway on Saturday.
The Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver, currently fourth in the standings 33 points behind leader Sam Hornish Jr, set the fastest time in 'Firestone Fast Six' qualifying to put his #9 Panoz-Honda on pole for Sunday's Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma.
Dixon, who won earlier this year at Watkins Glen, will be joined on the front row by rookie Marco Andretti with Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan on row two.
British duo Dario Franchitti and Dan Wheldon will start fifth and sixth while Hornish Jr could only manage 10th fastest time in regular single lap qualifying and failed to make the final session.
