Fernando Alonso has completed the official rookie orientation and is now cleared to take part in the Indianapolis 500.

The two-time F1 world champion has cleared the hurdles required for every rookie to race at the Indy 500 within the first two hours of his maiden outing at the iconic American circuit on his first day of track testing.

Alonso, who will drive a McLaren-Honda-Andretti entry at the 101st Indy 500, had been required to complete 10 laps at 205-210mpg, 15 laps at 210-215mph and 15 laps over 215 laps and notch up these laps with relative ease.

Marco Andretti completed shakedown laps in Alonso's car, fresh with its orange livery, before handing over to the Spaniard.

Having announced his decision to skip the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix in order to race at the Indianapolis 500, Alonso is at the iconic American track for a maiden test.

Alonso has been handed the test as, unlike fellow Indy 500 rookies Zach Veach, Ed Jones and Jack Harvey, he has not driven on an oval before, nor has he driven an Indy car.
