Disappointment for Power.

Will Power admitted he was disappointed after missing out on a home win in the non-championship Nikon Indy 300 IndyCar Series event on Australia's Gold Coast.

The Team Australia man started the race at Surfers Paradise from pole position and led the field for the opening 16 laps; opening up a handy advantage over Ryan Briscoe in the process.

However, it all came to nothing on lap 17 when he brushed the wall at turn five and damaged the steering on the #8 car – which resulted in him then hitting the wall at turn six.

Power did his best to get the car back to the pits but was unable to do so and had to park the car at turn eight.

“Obviously, I am very disappointed,” he said. “The KV Racing Technology – Team Australia car was very quick. You could see how fast we were at the start of the race.

“Then I backed off to save a lot of fuel, not pushing hard, and then got caught out and clipped the inside wall and ricochet into the next one.

“It was a really bad mistake, the worst of my life. It was a very bad day for me and I am very disappointed.

“But I want to thank all of the KVRT Team Australia crew for all of their hard work this weekend. They gave me a great Aussie Vineyards car and it's a shame we could not finish this race.”

Power's KV Racing Technology team-mate Oriol Servia, who also carried the colours of Aussie Vineyards and Team Australia this weekend in the final event of the 2008 IndyCar Series season, was left to fly the flag for the team and he showed the speed and potential of the green and gold cars with a storming drive from 15th on the grid to finish in fifth.

“I finished the season with another top five, which is great, but it was a race where I think KV Racing Technology – Team Australia had the dominant car today,” he said. “KVRT has shown that on road and street courses we have everything it takes to win. It's just tough racing out there and everything has to go our way.

“Again, we got very close to a great race, and actually, I think we had a good race, going from 15th to fifth. We passed a lot of cars on track, which is not very easy these days, so I am very happy with the race.

“We have the potential to win races together, but we just need to keep working hard.”
