In a time of financial uncertainty for many in the IndyCar Series, long-time sponsor ABC Supply Co Inc. has had some good news for AJ Foyt Racing by agreeing to extend its deal to sponsor the #14 machine driven by Vitor Meira.
With the Detroit Grand Prix pulled from the schedule and the likes of racewinners Justin Wilson, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Oriol Servia and Will Power not guaranteed places on the grid next season, the announcement - which locks the sponsorship in for the 2009-2010 seasons with an option for 2011 - has come at the right time for the perennial midfielders.
“We are thrilled to have ABC Supply on board for the next two seasons,” admitted team owner AJ Foyt, who inked the deal with America's largest wholesale distributor of roofing, siding and windows earlier this month, "We've had a really good relationship with everyone at ABC Supply for the last four years and I'm very happy that it will continue. They have been an important part of our being able to turn this team around, and I believe they will see that it has been worth it. I think 2009 is going to be a great year for us.”
As part of the agreement, the company will again sponsor the ABC Supply/AJ Foyt 225 at the Milwaukee Mile, which is due to run on 31 May 2009.
“This will be our fifth year sponsoring racing legend AJ Foyt and the AJ Foyt Racing team,” commented president and chief executive officer David Luck,"The values and work ethic that have served this racing dynasty are the same values that fuel ABC Supply, and we are excited to team up with AJ once again.”
While Foyt Sr enjoys the benefits of a strong partnership, however, AJ Foyt IV's future in the IndyCar Series has been called into question by reports that the Vision Racing team which has run him for the past couple of seasons has had to release personnel as the financial situation takes its toll. Foyt is reported to need a sponsor to continue with the team next season.
