Pre race quoteboard - Road America

Pre race quotes from the Grand Prix of Road America, round eight of the 2004 Champ Car World Series.

Sebastien Bourdais:
(#2 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone)

I think Newman/Haas Racing historically has been very good in Elkhart Lake. Last year we had a very good car and we tested again this year to prepare for the race. I think the McDonald's car is going to be plenty, plenty fast. I'm not concerned about the speed; I'm more concerned about the weather. It can be on and off. It's definitely the venue that the drivers are expecting the most from because it's probably the best track in the United States so we're going to have fun.

Road America is a very long track but it doesn't have much room to make a mistake. There are some runoff areas then there is the grass but the wall is right behind so you have to be careful not to make a mistake. It's definitely the race track that counts the most from the driver standpoint because it's fast, it's challenging, it has a bit of everything and I think it's a really neat race track.

Bruno Junqueira:
(#6 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone)

Road America is my favourite track of the year. I love the track; I think it's a proper road race track. For sure I have had a lot of success there and that is something I am proud of because it's a difficult track. I won there twice and finished third the other time and started twice from pole. I hope I can continue the success this year and put the PacifiCare car in winner's circle. Last year at Road America was a perfect weekend. I earned the maximum points as well as my first win of the season. I was on the pole Friday by a second and had a big (time) difference Saturday as well. It is great to win but it's especially great to win at Road America my favourite track.

Alex Tagliani:
(#8 Johnson Controls Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone)

I'm excited to get to Road America because it's the most beautiful road course on the Champ Car schedule. I've always been quick there, and the No. 8 Johnson Controls car was quickest in testing there earlier this year.I've been waiting for this race to score some more good results for the Rocketsports team. The Road America circuit is the best place to demonstrate the new “push to pass” feature that was introduced in Champ Cars this season.

The push to pass will be most effective in the long straightaway, but Road America is such a technical, high-speed course, there will be many opportunities to use the extra boost on the road course - even more than on a street course, so it will spice things up on the track. I can't wait to get to Road America with many people from Johnson Controls, which is based in Wisconsin, and show them an exciting race.

Ryan Hunter-Reay:
(#4 Herdez Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone)

Road America is a phenomenal track and from a driving standpoint, it is my favorite of the year and I would bet that 99% of the drivers in the series would agree. We had a very good test there earlier this year before Milwaukee and I am definitely excited to race there in my Lola. The track is challenging and fast, when you have a good car, it is a blast. The Herdez Competition team has consistently run well there, so I am confident we will have a good weekend.

Jimmy Vasser:
(#12 Gulfstream Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone)

Road America is without a doubt one of the finest racetracks in the world. As a driver, we all look forward to racing there every year. I've had a lot of great races in Elkhart Lake, but the one that stands out the most to me happened early in my career. In 1990, I won a Formula Atlantic race from pole when they had a 40-car field that year. So that race brings back some great memories, because it really helped launch my Champ Car career.

A.J. Allmedninger:
(#10 BG Products/Red Bull Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone)

I'm looking forward to Road America for a lot of reasons. The podium results for RuSPORT in Vancouver have really boosted the confidence within the team. We knew we could be at the top, but Vancouver proved it. Now I think we can build on that confidence and the continued momentum to have really strong results for this stretch of the season. I can't wait to drive at Road America. It's a beautiful track and very unique. It should be a lot of fun and a good challenge.

Mario Dominguez:
(#55 Herdez Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone)

We had our best qualifying result of the year at Road America last year when I started fifth and we have been consistently starting in the top-five this year so I have high expectations for our weekend. That track is every drivers dream circuit, it is wide, fast, steep, fast corners, it's awesome and I can't wait to return.

Michel Jourdain Jr:
(#9 Gigante Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone)
