Bourdais fits the Portland bill

20 June 2004

McDonald's backed Newman-Haas racing driver Sebastien Bourdais was lovin' it in Oregon as he fitted the bill for glory at the 1.969 mile track, leading from pole to chequered flag at Portland in the Champ Car World Series.

After two caution periods it was solid racing through the field in a race largely devoid of action or incident.

Bourdais led save for when he was served up faultless pitstops to match his faultless racing on the circuit. The win makes him the first repeat winner of 2004.

Newman-Haas team-mate Bruno Junqueira closed in on the Frenchman for the final few laps, but was too far off to present any challenge.
