Rawdog, taking what you said and what fairoldguy said, just my thoughts, but isn't the bulk of a wheel sticking out causing the biggest amount of drag on a car? Is it a bad idea to make the whole wheel thing more aerodynamic and reduce drag, therefore increasing efficiancy and hence speed? The biggest drawback to the design of the Deltawing would be keeping the brakes cool enough due to reduced airflow. I always thought that the definition of open wheel was an open steering wheel as in F1, IRL, Superleague Formula and so on with open cockpits. I think that all the submissions made to IRL contain some radically new design and they all have their merits and are worth looking into.
