Indianapolis 500 - Practice 6 times

Will Power topped the times of the first proper day of practice since Monday, with Alex Tagliani the only driver able to break the Penske domination of the top lap speeds.
After two days of kicking their heels, the teams and drivers at Indianapolis finally got a decent day of weather to work with, and they duly made the most of it with 2394 laps of running - more than the whole first five days of practice combined.

The session was interrupted early on for a major crash by Simona de Silvestro, who went into the wall after her HVM's suspension failed. The car went airborne twice, and finally flipped and rolled before catching fire. De Silvestro climbed out with minimal assistance and went to hospital for treatment to burns on both hands; a decision on whether she is able to participate in Fast Friday running will be made by doctors in the morning.

Will Power went on to dominate the top of the timesheets, and only Alex Tagliani from Sam Schmidt Motorsports was able to break up the Penske grip on the top positions.

On the evidence of today's session, anyone not able to make at least 224mph will be doubtful to make the 33-car grid for the race on Sunday, May 29.
