Indianapolis 500 - Practice 7 times

The final day of practice before qualifying is known as "Fast Friday," and it lived up to its reputation with six drivers topping 228mph - led by Penske's Helio Castroneves.
Helio Castroneves could make history on Pole Day by claiming a third consecutive pole position at the Indianapolis 500, the first man to do so. But Fast Friday showed that he would have stiff competition before he could write his name in the record books.

Sam Schmidt Motorsports' Alex Tagliani isn't going away and came second in the times, while Scott Dixon demonstrated that Ganassi remain a potent threat by finishing in third. The other drivers to top 228mph on Friday were Ryan Briscoe, Bertrand Baguette and Ed Carpenter.

The session was short one driver after Simona de Silvestra was ruled out on medical grounds for the day following her Thursday practice session accident.

Rumours surrounded Scott Speed's continued involvement with the Dragon Racing team after they finished the day in last place, well off the sort of pace they'll need to have a chance of making the 33-car grid on Race Day.

Pole Day format starts with all cars taking to the track between 11am and 4pm local time to set their qualifying times; and then the top nine having a separate 90 minute shoot-out from 4.30pm to set the front three rows of the grid and determine the polesitter.
