IndyCar » Barber - Test times - March 12

Will Power topped the times in both the morning and afternoon sessions on the first of two days of IndyCar open testing at Barber Motorsports Park.
With just ten days to go before the first race of the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series season, all the driver and teams got their last chance for pre-season testing at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.

In the first of two days of testing, Team Penske's Will Power topped both the morning and afternoon sessions. After a delayed start due to low temperature, Power set a morning benchmark of 1:08.4984s on the 2.38-mile, 17-turn road course that improved to 1:07.8625s after the lunch break. The top three drivers in both the first and second test sessions were all Chevrolet-powered, with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's Mike Conway putting in the best time of the Honda stable with a lap of 1:08.1584s in the afternoon.

Power was joined at Barber by his full-time team mate Helio Castroneves, who was second-fastest to Power in the afternoon; and also by AJ Allmendinger, who will be competing at Barber next month during the season ahead of his Indianapolis 500 début in May. Allmendinger had one of the bigger incidents late in the day when he got airborne at turn 8, but he was able to drive the car back to pit road afterwards.

Although Dale Coyne Racing have not formally announced its driver line-up for 2013, Justin Wilson turned out for the team as expected with Ana Beatriz in the second car. Beatriz is believed to be about to announce a deal to drive for the team in 2013 at oval courses and in her native Brazil. For the other road races, Stefan Wilson - who last year finished in third place in the Firestone Indy Lights championship - is hoping to clinch a deal to put him in the #18 alongside his big brother.
