2013 Indy 500: Practice 2 times

Rookie Carlos Munoz headed the timesheets on day 2 of practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of the 97th running of the Indy 500.
Firestone Indy Lights' Carlos Munoz continued to impress as a rookie in the Indianapolis 500 practice sessions, topping the day 2 practice timesheets by 0.0360s over reigning IZOD IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay just a day after acing his Rookie Orientation Program.

Freshening conditions on Sunday means that the field had to get to grips with a strong breeze blowing across the the 2.5-mile speedway as they practice running in pairs to get the tow down the long straightaway for maximum speeds. Running at the back of a five-car chain of team mates Munoz was the only driver to top 223mph, while three of his fellow Andretti Autosport drivers - Hunter-Reay, EJ Viso and Marco Andretti - all made it into the 222mph bracket.

"I think the job we've done as a team has been impressive," Viso said. "These guys have put together a fast setup for us for this year. Today we realised we actually went pretty fast; we had a good car on our own and a good car in traffic. I think it's going to be a flawless and smooth month and I'm really looking forward to it."

Although Munoz run onto the grass at one point after a misunderstanding with another driver, there were no major incidents during the six hours of track time available to the teams and drivers at work on Sunday. The running time was only briefly interrupted for three ten-minute debris clean-ups during the afternoon, and one similarly brief general track inspection.

There was no need for any rookie time to be set aside on Sunday, but Monday afternoon will see two hours reserved for Conor Daly to attempt his Indy 500 ROP completion with AJ Foyt Racing, after he jets in from Spain where he was competing in this weekend's GP3 Series racer.
