Texas: Practice 1 times

Marco Andretti topped the times in the first practice session of the Firestone 550 at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon.
Marco Andretti set the pace at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon at the end of 75 minutes of practice for the IZOD IndyCar field at the 1.5-mile oval.

His lap of 24.0330s (217.950mph) was 0.0412s faster than Indianapolis 500 champion Tony Kanaan who was second fastest in the session. There were no significant incidents, with the only stoppages the result of a debris clean-up and track inspections.

Qualifying takes place at 3.30pm local time, 9.30pm BST and takes the traditional IndyCar format of a two-lap speed trial for each competitor in turn.

An additional half hour practice at dusk will then allow the teams to work on race trims for the Saturday evening Firestone 550.
