Mid-Ohio: Race results

Ganassi's third driver Charlie Kimball finally delivered on the road course potential that's been becoming increasingly apparent for the last year, to claim his maiden IndyCar Series win.
Charlie Kimball extended Ganassi's run of recent success in the IZOD IndyCar Series by claiming his own first win in the championship, with a quite brilliantly executed and comprehensive tactical victory in the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

In a race of differing fuel strategies and no cautions, Kimball first took the lead on lap 30 after pole sitter Ryan Hunter-Reay made his first visit to pit lane. After that, Kimball alternated at the front with Schmidt-Hamilton Motorsport's Simon Pagenaud, but after the final round of pit stops played out it was Kimball who was out in front and who crossed the line over five seconds clear of the Frenchman to claim his maiden win in IndyCar racing and become the fourth first-time winner of the 2013 season.

Kimball's team mate Dario Franchitti took third spot but he was almost half a minute off the winner. Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Helio Castroneves rounded out the top six some distance behind the Scot as the lack of cautions meant the field was strung out by the end of 90 green flag laps of the 13-turn, 2.258-mile permanent road course. There was only one retirement, after Tony Kanaan pulled the #11 Sunoco KV Racing Technology car off the track with a loose wheel on lap 65.

Helio Castroneves extended his lead in the championship standings to 31 points over Scott Dixon.
