Silverstone Wing Complex to host Kartmania ‘12

Martin Capenhurst: "Having Kartmania at such a prestigious circuit like Silverstone, the home of British motorsport, can only increase its importance to all concerned in motorsport.”
Silverstone will be the new host venue for this year's Kartmania Show.

The eye-catching Wing Complex will provide the floor and the halls. The UK's only dedicated karting trade show, Kartmania was first held in 2007 and it has been held at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Last year, it attracted 2,600 visitors over two days. This year it will run from November 17-18.

Kartmania promoter Martin Capenhurst told Crash.net: “I have always wanted Kartmania at a circuit, either kart or race. Having it at such a prestigious circuit like Silverstone, the home of British motorsport, can only increase its importance to all concerned in motorsport. It took about four weeks to get Kartmania to Silverstone and they were very keen to get us there.”

The Complex itself offers Kartmania a chance to build upon its past success and offer a new look. Capenhurst added: “Space wise the total of The Wing is about the same as Ricoh, but it is over three halls each with 1200 square metres and three mezzanine floors each at 450 square metres. So it's a new layout which should offer a new look to the show.”

The popular feature Kartboot, which offers used equipment to customers at a reduced price will return in the garage and pit area underneath the exhibition hall.

Capenhurst is considering other ideas too: “There is also room for either one or two kart circuits to be built in the paddock. I am hoping we can do a timed circuit for a competition, just to be different from an arrive and drive circuit,” he continued.

Kartmania at Silverstone further increases the circuit's importance to the karting fraternity. It already has the iZone driver performance facility and the Zip factory is at the Silverstone technology park. In Formula Kart Stars, winners of the 'Driver of the Day' awards in 2011 got special access to the paddock and pits during the British Grand Prix.

As well as Kartmania, the Motorsport UK Show which was held successfully for the first time last year and showcased many levels of club motorsport, will also be held at the Wing on November 3-4.
