Superkart test at Oulton Park

Experienced drivers and newcomers took to the Oulton Park track last week in preparation for the upcoming season

The Superkarts had their first 2013 test last Wednesday with several drivers travelling to Oulton Park.

It was a mixed field with a 250 Division 1, 250 Nationals and 125 Opens appearing on track for four 15 minute sessions.

Liam Morley, Rob Stubbs, Duncan Marshall, Danny Edwards, Danny Butler, Phil Garrett, Francois Kishtoo and Joshua Rayman were among the drivers testing.

Matt Isherwood, who won the UK Cup at Bishopscourt, Nothern Ireland last year reported: "For us, the day at Oulton went OK. It was just a case of working things out with the new chassis."

He added that the main aim of the day was to do long runs with the engine: "We're glad to say we had no detonation or engine problems, which is looking really good."

Lee Harpham, who will be competing in 125 Opens this year as well as racing in Europe to defend his title, had this to say about his day: "The test went really well," he noted. "The kart showed good potential and the engine showed good speed on the data."

Last year's British Superkart Grand Prix winner Louis Wall meanwhile didn't appear at the test. Nevertheless, he was enthusiastic about the developments to his kart. "I have the same chassis which we're trying to tweak to get a bit more out of it," he explained. "There are a few more development ideas from Rob Walkinshaw so fingers crossed we will hit the ground running this year."

The next Superkart test will be at Silverstone on 9 March.
